Even a cover for Breakthrough can be shot with a digital
camera, as Larry Blomquist demonstrates, but only if the resolution is high
enough. Larry is using his favorite, a Sony Mavica 500 (5 mega-pixels) at a 2592
x 1944 resolution, to photograph Jeff Mourning's tiger trout. This was shot at
the 2003 NTA convention (at 3 o'clock in the morning) in Louisville, Kentucky.
WE ARE RECEIVING more and more
of our articles and reference with photos taken by digital cameras. Sometimes
the photos we receive are exactly what we need for publishing, but not all of
them. I now want to provide you with some guidelines for sending digital photos
to Breakthrough, as well as some tips for taking them for yourself.
At first, digital cameras may
be a little more intimidating than the automatic snap-and-shoot film cameras we
are accustomed to, but they are becoming much more user-friendly and thus much
more popular. By the way, the film cameras are great and are by no means
destined for a trash dump.
