HABITATS

I know I have written articles before on re-creating ice and I know I have given out techniques for simulating it. These techniques were very good at that time, but not good enough now. We have to keep on striving and growing and evolving. That’s why I am writing this. My ice techniques have now evolved and I will explain them to you.

I believe nature is at her finest when she is adorned with the jewels and gems of ice, crystals, and icicles. When I re-create ice, I use the same forces that nature uses to transform water into ice and icicles. These forces are wind, gravity, heat, and cold.

If you use these same influences when you attempt to simulate any of God’s creations, you are bound to get closer than someone who doesn’t, but first you must use a product that has the ability to act like the real thing—water. It amazes me when taxidermists and other habitat artists try to simulate water using substances such as tin foil, waxes, resins and plastics that have nothing to do with H2O! These products will limit your artistic abilities. I learned this first-hand when I was limited to these media. The medium must allow you the freedom to imitate nature’s forces, and then use your artistic abilities to create. Look at the choices.
