FISH PAINTING

As with all fish, white crappies will vary in color due to many factors. Your selection of reference materials will help you greatly as will more practice with your airbrush. Observing freshly caught fish will also help, and is a great excuse to go fishing! I use lacquer--based Polytranspar Paints, the prefix being FP for lacquer and WA for water-based.

For Skin Mounted Fish and Reproductions

Step 1, #220 Fungicidal Sealer. Apply three coats over the entire fish, including the mouth interior. Allow approximately ten minutes drying time in between coats. To speed up the drying time, rotate the fish under a flood light or a hair dryer.
