MOST OF US GET INTO TAXIDERMY BECAUSE WE LOVE nature, and taxidermy is an extension that brings us closer to it. We soon find out that there is much more to it than mounting animals.

Rocks and stone will often find a place in our habitat work, but sometimes a base may need to take on a more formal appearance. One day, quite by accident, I realized an artificial stone effect could be achieved by distorting layers of lacquer color pigments. I refined this sudden discovery to a speedy and quick method of making my own artificial granite or marble bases. It is an inexpensive process that others could use in their taxidermy base work. Here is my artificial marble technique. I hope it helps you out.
