RESTORATIONS
 

SOONER OR LATER, just about every taxidermist will receive a phone call from a customer with an old deer head he wants remounted. I’ve had several of those calls, so when my cousin John Copelli stopped by recently and told me of a friend of his who was interested in having four heads redone, I worked up a price. A few weeks later, John and I stopped by the Sigel Hotel where the heads were located, and John introduced me to Gene Kidder, the owner of the hotel. After introductions, we proceeded to a storage room where the four heads were located. At least 2 were done in the 1930s and the other two were not much younger. The sizes of the antlers were impressive. All four heads were between 140 and 160 Boone and Crockett. Years of smoke from hanging in the bar had taken a toll on the heads. After picking out a pose and getting the formal business out of the way, John and I were on our way home with one of the heads to be remounted........
