A LOCAL
ARCHERY SHOP IN OUR AREA HAS several mounts on display, as many of these
outdoor shops do. Many of my husband Chris’ mounts are displayed, along with
those from other local taxidermists and a few customers. We received a
panicked call from the shop owner, stating a customer’s half-lifesize dall
sheep ram, which had been mounted in the 1950s, had fallen off the wall and
was severely damaged. The shop owner believed it was damaged beyond repair,
but wanted Chris to come look at it prior to calling the owner of the mount
with the disheartening news.
Upon arrival,
the first thing Chris noticed was that the 50-somepound mount was hung on a
single drywall screw! This was problem number one, and had the sheep been
properly hung, this accident would have never occurred. Unfortunately, the
mount was also hung too close to the front door and a customer had
accidentally bumped into the ram when entering the store. The drywall screw
