Birds get no respect. At competitions no one would never dream of seeing unpainted and shrunken eyelids on deer heads, yet it happens all the time with birds. Finish work on birds still seems to be a major problem area for many taxidermists that I notice when at shows.

As conscientious taxidermists, it should always be our collective goal to achieve more realistic looking mounts for our clients. As taxidermists entering competitions, good finish work will always make the difference in achieving the highest awards. With this fact in mind, I wonder why many taxidermists still leave this area so neglected.
