Mountain Sheep - Dall, Stone, Rocky Mountain bighorn, California bighorn, and desert bighorn—are among nature’s toughest survivors. From the parched desert mountains of Mexico to the frozen snow-capped peaks of Alaska, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories, wild sheep face the elements twelve months of the year—every year. The winter season alone can be six months long in the north. While we live in the comfort of our heated homes sipping on after-dinner tea near a cozy fireplace, dall sheep remain high in the mountains at temperatures of -40 C or colder, often bracing strong winds that significantly increase windchill. It amazes me that these magnificent animals can survive as many as 15 such winters before they die of old age. They definitely have my respect and admiration.
