THE BEGINNING OF A WONDERFUL RESEARCH PROJECT began in mid-August of 2005 with a phone call from friend and patron Rick Elkus. Rick has a small satellite research station to study California's golden trout. He asked if I wanted to go with him to Lake South America to collect some DNA-pure Volcano Creek golden trout. The trip was scheduled for mid-September. I didn't have a conflict on my calendar, so no arm twisting was required.
