ALTHOUGH “GRAY
partridge” (Perdix perdix,
meaning “a partridge”) is
the correct name for this species, most
hunters call it a Hungarian partridge,
or simply “Hun.” This handsome partridge
belongs to the largest family in
the order Galliformes, called Phasianidae,
comprising some 155 species of
pheasants and partridges, all exclusively
native to the Old World.
