ALTHOUGH “GRAY partridge” (Perdix perdix, meaning “a partridge”) is the correct name for this species, most hunters call it a Hungarian partridge, or simply “Hun.” This handsome partridge belongs to the largest family in the order Galliformes, called Phasianidae, comprising some 155 species of pheasants and partridges, all exclusively native to the Old World.
