Painting a Chum Salmon

There's an In-Depth Study on chum
salmon with reference in Breakthrough Issue #41.
Jeff Lumsden not only won Best in World Fish at the
1992 World Taxidermy Championhsips®, he also won Judges' Choice Best of
Show. This paint schedule reflects his methods for painting the color phase
chum he won with in 1992. As always, collect and follow reference to
re-create the many variancles and patterns that can be found in this
species.
NOTE: There is a
beautifully mounted chum salmon by Mike Ross on page 2 of this issue.
Crimson Violet: Mix Blood Red 270 with Violet 320,
7:1. Body: (wash / stain) By diluting this color with water and using a
watercolor brush, you will be able to apply this color easily and very
realistically by following the existing patterns of the skin. If the fish
exhibits any green barring, this would be the time to duplicate them as
