IF IT'S TRUE THAT "...THE EYES are the windows to the soul," well then, I say that ears must be the ... uh ... the other windows to the soul! The ears on mammals are every bit as important to an expressive mount as the eyes.

So often I see deer heads mounted with ears positioned randomly, or wherever they ended up once the seams were sewn up. On a gamehead, in particular, the ears give many of us fits, both in preparing them as well as their placement on the head. Placement also requires attention to focus and rotation. Also, our earliest lessons about drumming were often taught to us courtesy of the ears.
