One of the most frequently asked questions has to be, "Where should I make the cut?" Usually, the answer is relatively simple, but sometimes making the best choice may be confusing. Let's examine the basic function of an incision and how it relates to making the right choice.

First and most obviously, the initial cut is made in order to free the skin from the carcass. Second, the opening must facilitate proper shaving and tanning of the skin. If these two things are done, a hide is capable of being used for taxidermy.
