MOST BEGINNERS THINK first and only of the fish itself. When the fish is nearing completion, a light goes on and the base is now the focus of the effort. The first thing that comes to mind is, "Driftwood! Yes, that will do just nicely."

The search turns up a couple choice pieces, one is too small and one is much bigger and heavier. By flattening the bottom, it should hold the carved fish without toppling over. The decision is made on how and where to attach the fish to the driftwood.
