Painting a Smallmouth Bass GREEN Phase

Smallmouth bass vary greatly in color from almost black to a light silvery green. The spot and bar patterns can also vary from very dark and harsh to almost nonexistent. The bar patterns are not solid, but very irregular, and are made up of a dark color on each scale. These fish have very metallic colors which make them almost glow. This paint schedule offers the basic colors for the green phase of smallmouth bass. Always be willing to experiment with new colors to achieve different effects and follow good reference of fish from your area. Smallmouth reference photos are on pages 82-83.

Step 1, 100 Touch Up White: Spray the belly and the bottom of the head, making them as white as possible without completely covering up the markings. Spray the mouth interior. Lightly spray the rays on the pelvic fins, tail, anal and soft dorsal fins.

Step 2, 445 Knupp Green: Blend in epoxy work to match surrounding skin colors. Blend in the color imperfections on the body if necessary. Lightly spray...
