HEN YOUR FIRST AFRICAN safari group arrives, it will be an exciting day in your studio. My first opportunity to mount a group of African trophies was around 1978. By that time, I had mounted virtually every type of big game that is taken in North America--moose, bison, brown bears, mountain lions, mountain goats, and all the species of sheep. I had worked long and hard to please the affluent hunting community in my part of Louisiana and the Gulf states, but for some reason, they were hesitant to send me their African trophies.

At that time, Africa was popular, but the cost was still out of the reach for most hunters, even for the ones who could afford to travel to Canada and Alaska. For most hunters at that time, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
