Here are Rick's pearls of wisdom about competing, as well as photos of the pieces that left him in awe, for complete competition novices and for those with battle scars.

MY GOAL FOR THIS "BACK TO BASICS" ARTICLE is to ignite or possibly relight the pilot light for some potential "competition junkies," like myself. I did some reminiscing about the past 15 years and comprised some photographs and thoughts about a few of the many mounts and people that were inspirational to me. I hope they are equally impressive to you.

The new year is upon us and along with it comes the annual season of taxidermy competitions. The vast majority of state and regional shows traditionally run from March through July.
